First Baptist Church of East Bay is a New Testament Church of The Lord Jesus Christ. His gospel was laid as the foundation and He is the Head. The Church had its beginning on Thursday night, May 11, 1967 with an organizational agreement between ten individuals under the leadership of Missionary Pastor Chester Johnson. The first baptismal service was held on April 28, 1968 in the Alafia River with nine new converts being baptized and added unto the Church. This Church was started by the authority of Sixtieth Street Baptist Church of Pinellas Park, Florida which serves as the first step of a grand history reaching back through the ages with a doctrinal lineage to the first Church that Jesus established along the shores of Galilee.

This Church exist for the purpose of carrying out The Lord Jesus Christ’s commands and glorifying The Father in heaven. This will not be accomplished but by the power of The Holy Spirit. By His power and leadership we strive to carry out the great commission of sharing the gospel with the lost, baptizing and making disciples of the saved. We do this through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word in public services and engaging in multiple avenues of outreach. The avenues of study and outreach include a nursery for each service, the Sunday School Bible study hour, children’s church, Christian school – age two through 12th grade, bus ministry, community visitation, home bound, assisted living, nursing home, juvenile detention center and prison ministries, and one-on-one discipleship.

First Baptist Church carries out the great commission beyond our immediate reach by sponsoring and supporting missionaries on several continents and in many cultures. God has worked through her to establish or help establish churches of multiple cultures in Florida, other states of The United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
